PERIODICALS

Many shipping industry periodicals frequently covered container transportation topics throughout the decades.  Examples include Distribution Manager (later Distribution Worldwide and Distribution), Traffic World, Fairplay, American Shipper, Journal of Commerce, etc.  Some of these may be available online; others are probably lost to history (but may still exist in microfiche archives at large libraries).

David Casdorph's many journals on the subject provide excellent technical data and photographs.  Examples include his Intermodal Transport History and Technology series published electronically from 2002 to 2007.  He published a similar series of printed journals in the 1990s entitled Intermodal Transport Pictorial and Review through the Society of Freight Car Historians.

David Casdorph also authored an excellent all-color photo essay entitled "Containers A to Z" published in multiple issues of Model Railroading magazine from April 2000 through February 2003.
